Termites |
Termites need two important ingredients to thrive – wood and moisture. The queen can live up to 6 feet below ground and often is never seen. For this reason, termites are a particularly tough pest to eradicate.
Some signs of an infestation include mud tubes rising up a foundation or the presence of “swarmers” (reproductive winged termites) usually in spring, but can be seen at any time of year. Swarming termites look similar to flying ants and must be carefully observed to make the proper identification.
Because of the complexity and inaccessibility of a termite colony, it is important to get a professional pest control expert to treat this problem. NPWC will provide a free termite inspection and evaluation.
There are ways to help prevent termites from finding your home:
-
Keep moisture away from your house.
-
Gutters and downspouts should drain away from your house.
-
Wet leaves and debris must be kept off the foundation.
-
Repair any water leaks including faulty plumbing.
The best way to eradicate a colony is through a termite baiting system.
